For some, it’s the perfect setup – a cozy, tucked-away bedroom that’s more private than a VIP lounge. Its selling point, however, is the lakefront view and outdoor dining setup. You might want to copy their clever rope-and-post fencing and graveled terrace ideas. Its most enviable features include a sleeping loft, full walls of windows, a breakfast bar, a wood-burning fireplace, and a barrel-style hot tub.

Tiny House Block is just outside of East San Diego, offering short or extended-stay tiny house rentals and communal living. This resort village is perfect for those who want to get away and try the tiny life for a short time or those who are looking into longer-term options. This California tiny house trailer dealer creates trailers designed for strength and engineered to be lightweight and balanced.

This appeals to those who dream of living across the country instead of having a single address. However, for sustainability, building a tiny stationary house with a foundation versus a mobile one could last as long as a traditional home if it’s properly maintained. Placing a tiny house on wheels to be driven across the country will eventually lead to wear and tear on the structure. Tiny house plans range anywhere from a minimum of 60 square feet up to 600 square feet of space. Of course, the best size for a tiny house in that range will depend on your living circumstances. Tiny house floor plans are designed to use every square inch of space efficiently.

If I hadn’t taken a moment to slow down and really think about the framed window, I would have put up sheeting and dropped in the windows. I would have been living with windows that were too low, and I would have had to duck every time. The person who helped me with my framing plans was about six inches shorter than me, and I realized he had designed the windows to meet his needs, not mine. As you create the functional layout, you can also think about flow. I often think of activities—what do I do when I walk in the front door? Think about all the interactions you have in your functional areas and start to plot out the space in a way that makes sense to you.

The bed tucks into a window bay, and a wood stove sits in the living room so you can use the cabin all year. A contemporary take on the classic cottage, Shoreline is designed for those who appreciate a view. Tall windows enable you to look out into the surroundings, and the gabled roof, window seats, and porch create a welcoming ambiance.

Often, children and teenagers benefit from some freedom to grow in a space that’s all their own. I’ve always loved creating unique tiny house layouts to make the most of small spaces. Customizing the way a tiny house is laid out can create better flow and improve the overall function and enjoyment of a one-of-a-kind tiny home. A four-bedroom tiny home doesn’t have to put a damper on your nomadic lifestyle, either.

They allow tiny houses on wheels as ADUs, provided they meet the criteria set forth here. If you’re looking for a simple way to set up an ADU, Alameda Tiny Homes is a California tiny house builder who will help you through every step of the process. They take care of the permitting, building, and navigation needed to set up an ADU tiny home in Alameda, CA. With recent permit changes in Alameda, it’s a great place to build a tiny house on your property. Santa Cruz, California, is also getting on board with the tiny house movement.

You will get a complete set of plans so you can customize the interior colors and finishes as you make this your home. You can see beautiful examples of what it may look like at the Tiny Home Builders web site and look at the pix of the 24 foot "Tiny Living" plan. This is new construction, started in 2023. Our goal for this tiny house is to provide a retreat for Veterans and Gold Star families. After we started, our county in TN prohibited tiny houses on trailers unless they were manufactured and inspected as RV's or mobile homes. We decided to sell so we can build a tiny house on a foundation. We remain committed to providing a retreat for Veterans and Gold Star Familes.

The base model, similar to the one shown here, starts at $65,000 and includes delivery plus a one-time trip out to the company's Oregon City headquarters to see its construction. We have compiled a selection of finishes and options for you to choose from. Click on one of the buttons below to get started and we will guide you through each design aspect of our units for your customization. It’s your relaxation sanctuary, your workspace, and the perfect spot to entertain friends. But it’s not just about function; it’s about making the most of every inch.

Paige simply attached a piece of striped fabric to her bathroom sink—instead of installing a bulky set of drawers—to cover up her necessities. By sticking to a black-and-white color scheme, Paige makes her modestly sized kitchen appear much larger than it really is. Dallas designer Paige Morse renovated two 100-year-old sheds in her backyard to create a cozy home away from home. With just two rooms and 250 square feet, her space is remarkably stylish and space-efficient. As the custom tiny home designers you can trust, Tru Form Tiny takes quality seriously.

A standard sized tiny home was originally defined as being perfect for a single or a couple. But now there are some fantastic tiny home designs sporting three or more bedrooms capable of fitting the whole family in comfort and style. Check out some of the spacious floorplans and prefabricated designs outfitting the next generation of tiny housers. It’s not something that can just get slapped together on the weekend. A few mistakes can cost you thousands of dollars and void your initial savings by choosing to build a tiny house.

Tiny houses must meet some basic livability requirements, but the laws are quite flexible, especially those regarding accessory dwelling units (ADUs). Recently, tiny house building code was changed across California, making foundation and trailer requirements more flexible. California tiny house builders need to turn in an application for their foundation design, showing how the materials will meet the code. This change was adopted state-wide rather than city-by-city, making it even easier to build a tiny house in California. It’s also important to note that certain larger cities like Los Angeles are less tiny house-friendly, especially within city limits (although that is changing rapidly – (Read the PDF here). New places are cropping up that allow people to park their THOWs or build on a designated spot with access to community amenities like sewer, water, and even gardening.

It turns every inch into usable space, making these tiny homes feel bigger than they are. Choosing a loft in your tiny house is akin to selecting the top bunk at a sleepover – it’s an elevated experience. But here’s the thing, do you have the heart (and knees) for the climb? Lofts offer solitude and a sense of separation from the rest of your tiny house, but they do require a bit of acrobatics to access. But what truly sets your tiny house living room apart is the strategic use of windows. Placing them to frame breathtaking vistas can make your living room feel like it’s part of the landscape.

Understanding the purpose of your design now will help you avoid the really costly mistakes after you’ve started construction. My bathroom doesn’t have a sink because I have a kitchen sink right outside the door. You may want to think about whether you want a tiny house toilet inside your bathroom or if you prefer an outhouse. There are many benefits to using an outhouse, especially if, like me, you live on a large parcel of land. Should you decide that you will need a home office, there are plenty of options to turn a corner or a small area of your tiny house into a workspace. Consider if you will need the workspace all the time or an area that can do double duty, like a breakfast nook or corner of the living room.

Meteor, which opened on an industrial block in late 2019, has the grungy patina of a bar that’s been around for decades, with exposed brick walls, checkerboard floors and a well-worn wooden bar. The friendly bartenders mix excellent cocktails — try the Secret Tiger, a spicy passion-fruit mezcal margarita ($14) — but they’ll also pour you a boilermaker (a shot and a beer; a tequila and Tecate is $9), to pair with a relish-topped hot dog ($6). This dough comes together, rolls out easily and can be used regardless of filling or the cooking method. A large group of counter-protesters wearing black with white masks made their way to the encampment and began striking students with planks of wood and pepper spray, Daniel Harris told the Guardian. Footage showed mostly male counter-demonstrators, many of them masked and some apparently older than the students. “I saw women as young as 18 and 19 punched in the face by 25- or 30-year-old men,” Aiden Doyle, a member of the student encampment, said at a student press conference Wednesday.

Aerial footage showed people wielding sticks or poles to attack wooden boards that had been put up as a makeshift barricade to protect the encampment, some holding placards or umbrellas. Meghna Mair, a second-year undergraduate who said she took part in pro-Palestinian protests last week, also witnessed the masked group march through campus on their way to the encampment. “This is stuff that only happens in movies,” Harris said he thought at the time, describing the experienced of masked counter-protesters marching through campus as surreal. All those bodies working in unison, in fact, is what makes dumplings a celebration food in Chinese culture. And you’ll also want to go heavier on the salt than you would ordinarily on both varieties because the dough wrapper will subdue the seasonings. You also might consider using a tortilla press if you’ve got one handy — especially if you’re intimidated by the thought of all that rolling. “It’s just we always made the dough from scratch,” Che says on an early morning phone call from Dali in China’s southwestern Yunnan province, where she is working on a second cookbook that will focus on tofu. It would have been quicker and easier to use the inexpensive frozen wrappers you can find in any Asian market, and she’s quick to point out there’s no shame in going the convenience route.

The UCPD chief, John Thomas, told the student newspaper that officers had come under attack while trying to help an injured person, so they left. Details of her nasty divorce, including a restraining order against Boebert’s ex-husband, have been splattered across the media. In February, the oldest of Boebert’s four sons was arrested and charged with identity theft and other crimes. Nikuman-Ya is running the gyoza racket in Gardena, and that should really say enough. Sure, the cheese-pork-bun sounds a little stunt-dumpling, but the original gyoza is gingery, juicy goodness that's just seared on the bottom and warrants a taste if you're in the area. SGV OG Clarissa Wei described Luscious Dumplings' rapid hand-made dumpling process in a feature on Eater, but don't mistake the speed with which they're made as impugning on their quality. At the University of Wisconsin in Madison, police took down all but one tent at an encampment where officers with shields shoved protesters, resulting in a scrum and at least a dozen arrests. Four officers were injured, including a state trooper who was hit in the head with a skateboard, according to University of Wisconsin police spokesperson Marc Lovicott. Brown University, another member of the Ivy League, reached an agreement Tuesday with protesters on its Rhode Island campus. Demonstrators said they would close their encampment in exchange for administrators taking a vote to consider divestment from Israel in October. The compromise appeared to mark the first time a U.S. college has agreed to vote on divestment in the wake of the protests.

People threw chairs and other objects and at one point a group piled on a person on the ground, kicking and beating them with sticks until others pulled them out of the scrum. Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 18 is now out of beta and ready to download

blackmagic design software

Below those basics are the Fusion Titles, which include many more choices, many with animations (even 3D animations). Simply turn on the Transform or Crop tool below the preview player and resize and position to taste. After downloading the installer, you install the DaVinci Resolve program itself, but you can also optionally install its Control Panels, Raw Player, and Fairlight Audio program. The installation requires a system reboot, which isn’t common these days. And although Blackmagic has gone out of its way to make simple operation as intuitive as possible, it’s still a bit daunting to the casual user.

So the first node is usually for basic image colour balance, the second might be to isolate the sky, the third might be to smooth out skin, a fourth might be to add a flare. PCMag.com is a leading authority on technology, delivering lab-based, independent reviews of the latest products and services. Our expert industry analysis and practical solutions help you make better buying decisions and get more from technology. I’ve attended trade shows of Microsoft, Google, and Apple and written about all of them and their products.

New Photoshop beta adds advanced generative AI features

DaVinci Resolve sports all the color wheels and spectrometers you’d expect in a professional video editor. You can copy grades, use LUTs, and control edits with keyframes and Fusion nodes. Resolve uses AI for color matching, supports camera raw modes, and offers temporal and spatial noise reduction. You can sync by timecode or sound, and use as many angles as you want, though a 4-by-4 grid is the max the interface can show, which is a standard number for pro video editing software.

New Color page features

In addition, you can stream to multiple computers, iPads or even iPhones simultaneously. You can export your timeline to the Blackmagic Cloud using the new Presentations feature. This means that other people can review your timeline and leave comments which appear as markers on the timeline. As you can already gather, DaVinci Resolve Studio offers all of the features you could ever need and much more. So, rather than focusing on the general features on offer, we’re going to dive into some of the new headline features available in Studio 18.

With the former, you drag the clip across while the playhead remains centered. I couldn’t zoom the timeline with the prescribed Alt-Mouse wheel action in the Cut page. It did, however, work in the Edit page, and there are even buttons for Full Extent Zoom and Detail Zoom, as well as a custom zoom slider.

In addition, the DaVinci Neural Engine AI can analyze and automatically sort audio clips based on classification. After analysis, audio clips appear in bins categorized for dialogue, music and effects with detailed sub-categories such as explosions, water or insects. One of the most exciting new features on the Color page in DaVinci Resolve 18.5 is Relight FX. With this, you can add virtual light sources into a scene to alter the environmental lighting, fill dark shadows or change the mood. You can also adjust the light sources to cast a broad light, a point source, or a spotlight.

This version of the program has been available as a public beta release since April but is now available to download as the current version of the software. Davinci Resolve 18.5 introduces dozens of new tools, including four new AI tools, over 150 feature upgrades and major updates to the Cut page. DaVinci Resolve Studio is a typical NLE (non-linear editor) with drag and drop functionality which is reasonably intuitive to learn. Using the software at a basic level isn’t particularly difficult, but being such a vast program, mastering it is much more difficult. DaVinci Resolve Studio offers all the tools you need to create professional videos, rather than requiring several different programs to cover each, so the editing workflow is incredibly streamlined. For render speed testing, each video editing program joins seven clips of various resolutions ranging from 720p all the way up to 8K, and then applies cross-dissolve transitions between them all.

blackmagic design software

Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve 18.5 gets official release

The program automatically detects and uses the GPU to accelerate processing—sort of. Pro video editors usually don’t use canned transitions found in consumer products. That said, consumer products have started adding custom transition tools such as Pinnacle Studio’s Seamless transitions, which let you identify areas of the before and after clips to zoom, pan, and swoop to. In Resolve, you get to the transitions on either the Cut page, where there's a clear button, or on the Edit page, where you find them in the Effects section's Toolbox. Like Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve offers multiuser collaboration workflows, so that editors, colorists, and sound people can all work on the same timeline—even simultaneously.

BlackMagic DaVinci Resolve Micro Color Panel halves the price and adds iPad slot

If you want all the premium features, you have to pay a one-time fee of $295. You can only get a full license through an authorized reseller, such as B&H Photo Video. That’s probably because Blackmagic sells optional custom keyboards and panels that work with the software—those run from the $295 Speed Editor keyboard to the $27,585 Advanced Panel. The company also makes pro cinema and studio cameras ranging from the $1,295 Pocket Cinema Camera 4K to the $6,385 URSA Mini Pro 12K. PC hardware is nice, but it’s not much use without innovative software.

All knobs, dials and buttons are high quality and have been custom designed to produce the perfect amount of resistance, so customers can accurately fine tune any parameter. Blackmagic Design today announced DaVinci Resolve Micro Color Panel, a new more affordable color panel for DaVinci Resolve software. Please note, you must provide a lot of personal information to register DaVinci Resolve - name, email and physical address and phone number - before you're able to download it. If you have a great idea you’d like to share with our readers, send it to Blackmagic also makes some of the best cinema cameras, and some of the best cameras for filmmaking, like the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K model. And it’s also designed to be used by teams, working either together or remotely, with plug-ins for remote asset management and automation systems.

Hitfilm in particular has a very good interface, as well as a number of effects and composition tools. Now, artists can work simultaneously without disrupting each other’s work, so color, effects, and sound editing can begin before the editor has locked picture. This useful time-saving functionality was previously only available to premium users, but is now included in the free version. Fairlight, the audio editing workspace, has received its biggest update yet.

And if you like the look of the DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor keyboard, you get a copy of Studio 18 thrown in, too. The free download version of DaVinci Resolve is popular among YouTubers and gamers since it gives them a large subset of the program's editing features without the pro-level capabilities they don’t need. The free version is surprisingly robust, offering standard editing and cutting, effects, motion graphics, color correction, and audio editing. A massively powerful professional video production application, DaVinci Resolve includes all the cutting, keyframing, color grading, and audio tools pros want. It also offers a capable free version, but there's a considerable learning curve. There’s a lot to learn with this software beyond video editing and colour grading, but like any software, you can take or leave the features and functionality on offer to focus only on what you need.

Loose sheets, stained napkins and crammed notebooks prove to be far more than the ramblings of a crazy old man . What happens next is loosely recorded on videotapes and interviews, leading to a compilation of the definitive work on the events on Ash Tree Lane, unveiling a thrilling and terrifying history. Billy Reston is described as an African-American engineering professor at the University of Virginia, rendered paraplegic by a construction site accident near Hyderabad. Reston is said to be a longtime friend of Navidson, who photographed the very moment of Reston's accident.

In the beginning of the book, Truant appears to be a normal, reasonably attractive young man who happens upon a trunk full of notes left behind by the now deceased Zampanò. As Truant begins to do the editing, however, he begins to lose the tenuous grip he has on reality, and his life begins to erode around him. He stops bathing, rarely eats, stops going to work, and distances himself from essentially everyone, all in pursuit of organizing the book into a finished work that, he hopes, will finally bring him peace. Johnny Truant serves a dual role, as primary editor of Zampanò's academic study of The Navidson Record and protagonist as revealed through footnotes and appendices. Through its Central Library and 72 branches, the Los Angeles Public Library provides free and easy access to information, ideas, books and technology that enrich, educate and empower every individual in our city's diverse communities.

Zampanò cites research and medical records as evidence that Karen radically transformed her personality while in high school to become indifferent and aloof, and also that Karen suffered from chronic claustrophobia. Will Navidson is described as having become a successful war photographer thanks to an early military career in war-torn regions, though haunted by his role as an impartial documentarist of war. Navidson is said to be a Pulitzer winner and recipient of prestigious arts grants, who has jeopardized his relationship with Karen due to years of prolonged absences while working overseas.

When he accidentally wounded Hook, Roberts began hunting his own team to cover up his crime, ultimately killing Leeder. Parallel to the plot of the Record, Truant's footnotes document his descent into obsession, delusions, and paranoia as he compiles the manuscript. He recounts tales of sexual encounters, his lust for a tattooed dancer he calls Thumper, and his bar-hopping with his friend Lude.

Experimental in terms of design, typography, structure and content, this is a fully immersive and novel reading experience you won't be able to forget. The album Haunted also draws heavily from the novel, featuring tracks called "House of Leaves", "Exploration B" and "5&½ Minute Hallway", and many less obvious references. The video for "Hey Pretty" also features Mark Danielewski reading from House of Leaves (pp. 88–89), and in House of Leaves, the band Liberty Bell's lyrics were also songs on Poe's album. The Whalestoe Letters, a compilation of letters written by Truant's mother Pelafina during her committal at The Three Attic Whalestoe Institution, are published both as an appendix to House of Leaves and as a standalone book with additional content.

Flouting conventions of academic writing, Zampanò narrates the lives of the Navidson family during the events depicted in The Navidson Record, set in April 1990, including unfilmed events sourced from media and public records. The family are Will Navidson; his unmarried partner, Karen Green, a former fashion model; and their two children, Chad and Daisy. The novel is written as a work of epistolary fiction and metafiction focusing on a fictional documentary film titled the Navidson Record, presented as a story within a story discussed in a handwritten monograph recovered by the primary narrator, Johnny Truant. The narrative makes heavy use of multiperspectivity as Truant's footnotes chronicle his efforts to transcribe the manuscript, which itself reveals the Navidson Record's supposed narrative through transcriptions and analysis depicting a story of a family who discovers a larger-on-the-inside labyrinth in their house. There is also another female narrator, Truant’s mother, whose voice is featured through a series of stand-alone letters titled The Whalestoe Letters. Each narrator’s text is printed in a unique font, making it easy for the reader to follow the novel’s occasionally challenging format (Truant in Courier New in the footnotes and the main narrative in Times New Roman in the US version).

Some pages contain only a few words or lines of text arranged oddly to reflect the events of the story, often creating an agoraphobic and claustrophobic effect. The novel is also notable for its many narrators, who interact with each other in elaborate and confusing ways. The book was followed by a companion piece called The Whalestoe Letters, a series of letters written to the character Johnny Truant by his mother while she was confined in a mental institution. During the explorations, with Navidson lost in the maze for days, Karen is seen to have confronted this loss and is said to have overcome her dependency on him, finally making good on her ultimatum to depart with their children. Afterwards, while separated, Karen produced a short film focused on her relationship with Navidson, which led to her returning to Virginia in search of him.

Though many of the academic works Zampanò cites appear to analyze the Record purely as a work of horror fiction, Zampanò's writing remains adamant as to its authenticity. Now, for the first time, this incredible novel is available in book form, complete with the original full-color words, vertical footnotes, and the newly added second and third appendices. Though Pelafina's letters and Johnny's footnotes contain similar accounts of their past, their memories also differ greatly at times, due to both Pelafina's and Johnny's questionable mental states. Pelafina was placed in the mental institution after supposedly attempting to strangle Johnny, only to be stopped by her husband.

The Whalestoe Letters

Forbidden by Karen from entering, Navidson delegated exploration to a crew of professional explorers, who found, beyond the hallway, a maze-like complex containing an enormous spiral staircase which appears to descend endlessly. In the maze, they recorded footage of a multitude of corridors and rooms, completely unlit and featureless, with smooth ash-gray walls, floors, and ceilings. The maze is said to be silent save for the sound of a periodic low growl, which is never fully explained. At Zampanò’s apartment, Truant discovers a manuscript written by Zampanò, which turns out to be an academic study of a documentary called The Navidson Record, though Truant says that he can’t find any evidence that the film ever existed.

House of Leaves refers to Poe and her songs several times, not only limited to her album Haunted, but Hello as well. One example occurs when the character Karen Green is interviewing various academics on their interpretations of the short film "Exploration #4"; she consults a "Poet," but there is a space between the "Poe" and the "t," suggesting that Poe at one point commented on the book. Arriving at the house to help Navidson measure its dimensions, Tom is said to have improved the family's relationships and mood during his presence.

Truant also learns that Zampanò was erratic and capricious in his lifestyle and writing habits, diagnosing him with graphomania. House of Leaves was accompanied by a companion piece (or vice versa), a full-length album called Haunted recorded by Danielewski's sister, Anne Danielewski, known professionally as Poe. The two works cross-pollinated heavily over the course of their creations, each inspiring the other in various ways. Poe's statement on the connection between the two works is that they are parallax views of the same story.

As a conciliatory gesture, Navidson commits to prioritizing family over work by moving to the countryside. After promising Karen not to enter the hallway, he sends a crew in his stead to explore the maze, but privately chafes at this prohibition and breaks his word behind Karen's back. Pelafina, more commonly referred to as simply "P.", is Johnny's institutionalized mother who appears in the appendix to the text.

Johnny claims that his mother meant him no harm and claimed to strangle him only to protect him from missing her. It is unclear, however, if Johnny's statements about the incident—or any of his other statements, for that matter—are factual. Entirely written by Truant, this chapter recounts the conclusion of his downward spiral after Lude's death. He then describes setting fire to the completed manuscript, and, after a struck-out passage in purple – the only such passage in the entire book – Truant tells an ambiguous story about a woman who loses her baby in childbirth. She found Navidson emaciated and maimed by frostbite and injury, but they materialized together safely outside the house. Much of the film is described as footage from several ventures into a dark hallway which appears in the living room.

Holloway Roberts is described as an accomplished professional hunter and explorer, contacted by Reston to lead the explorations in Navidson's place. Roberts and Navidson were said to have developed a rivalry on first meeting, Roberts coveting Navidson's success and fame, and Navidson resenting relinquishing his discovery to another. Over several explorations, Roberts, accompanied by assistants Kirby "Wax" Hook and Jed Leeder, found the spiral staircase but could not reach the bottom after many hours. Intellectually engrossed by the anomalies of the house, Reston capably helped Navidson in measuring the house, organizing the explorations, and even rescuing the explorers, journeying through the maze himself despite his disability. Tom is described as Navidson's fraternal twin, the two brothers once being close but estranged for eight years for unknown reasons.

The novel has gone on to inspire doctorate-level courses and masters theses, cultural phenomena like the online urban legend of “the backrooms,” and incredible works of art in entirely unrealted mediums from music to video games. Though Truant attributes Zampanò as the author of The Navidson Record, Truant offers few concrete details about Zampanò's character or past, citing only information learned from his former acquaintances. These include neighbors and various students and social workers, exclusively female, who volunteered as readers for Zampanò's research. Unable to even determine Zampanò's full name, Truant only confirms that Zampanò became blind some time during the 1950s, and was approximately eighty years old at the time of his death.

This means you can now import USD data such as geometry, lighting, cameras, materials and animation. There are also new Fusion tools to manipulate, relight and render files and the native AI-based Depth Map tool is now supported. In DaVinci Resolve 18.5, the Cut and Edit pages now have an auto subtitle feature to transcribe speech automatically into a subtitle track on the timeline. The ‘transcribe’ feature has also added speech-to-text editing, which automatically transcribes video and audio clips. This means you can search for specific terms or jump to the section of a clip where a word appears without having to listen to whole scenes or interviews.

Movavi Video Editor

You can also choose between a broad light, a point source or a spotlight and adjust surface softness and specularity. In addition, you can now configure DaVinci Resolve color management on a timeline level. This means you can set independent timelines and output color spaces per timeline for projects with mixed media.

The full Studio version is just $295/£225, or if you buy the $295/£225 Speed Editor controller, you get the full version thrown in. DaVinci Resolve is excellent at motion tracking, even allowing multiple tracks. Suffice it to say it’s a much more complicated process than it is in Corel VideoStudio or other similar consumer software. The program actually has multiple tracker tools, including Camera, Planar, and Point trackers. The last two take 3D space into account, moving with your tracked object on three axes.

Key features

Resolve’s color tools are complex so they require technical expertise to master, but they are the best available. The standard version of Resolve is completely free, which is remarkable for such comprehensive software, and includes most major features. The beta version of DaVinci Resolve 18.5 is free and is available to download from the Blackmagic website now. There is also a beta version of DaVinci Resolve Studio 18.5 which requires a DaVinci Resolve Studio license dongle or software activation code. In addition, DaVinci Resolve color management can now be configured on a timeline level. This allows the setting of independent timeline and output color spaces per timeline for projects with mixed media. With Resolve 18.5, the DaVinci Neural Engine AI can analyze and automatically sort audio clips based on classification.

In our DaVinci Resolve 17 review, we assess the features, interface, pricing, and support of Blackmagic Design’s software. While many Mac owners use Final Cut Pro as their primary editor, DaVinci Resolve is commonly used for color grading due to its more powerful tools. BlackMagic has long offered powerful hardware add-ons for video editors, but the four-figure pricing has been a barrier to many, with even the Micro Panel coming in at $895. You can even take advantage of a free copy of DaVinci Resolve Studio when you purchase a Blackmagic Design camera or one of the DaVinci Resolve editing keyboards. The DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor is a specialist video editing keyboard featuring a jog wheel and includes Bluetooth connectivity alongside an internal battery.

As you’d expect in a pro video editor, you can trim the source clips before adding them to the timeline. While you’re doing so, the preview window splits into two, showing your start and end frames, along with the frame number in a mini-timeline. You can set in and out markers on the timeline to tell the program where to insert a clip from the source. The program lets you do three- and four-point editing, in which you mark the in and out points on both the source and on the timeline to control the clip position. So with DaVinci Resolve 17 or full Studio version varying between free and $295/£225, it’s far cheaper than any other full-spec editing software packages you can buy.

Similarity does the same except it can avoid image artifacts the first may introduce. Translation only stabilizes based on the X and Y axis (two-dimensional) motion. As with everything in Resolve, you get plenty of adjustments for stabilization, such as zoom, cropping ratio, and strength. The tool worked quickly compared with Final Cut and Premiere, and if you tweak enough, you can get optimal stabilization.

DaVinci Resolve is a super-powerful professional video editing application that offers a wealth of adjustments and effects. New users should expect a lengthy acclimation period, as its interface and methods differ from the general run of video editing software. Its system requirements are also more demanding than most competitors. The free version is not time-limited and offers enough tools to be useful for many amateurs.

In testing, I occasionally got a message saying I would need to pay to use a tool I was trying to use. Color grading has always been one of Resolve’s strengths, and new HDR grading tools further that. You can now create color wheels with custom roll-off for specific tonal ranges, a color warper that lets you adjust two parameters at once, and better mask-based targeted grading.

Guide to Interisland Travel in Hawaii

interisland cruise hawaii

Seabourn, Silversea and Oceania offer upscale accommodations, fine dining and multiple fare inclusions for travelers looking to journey in style across the Pacific Ocean, stopping in Hawaii along the way. Seabourn and Silversea feature smaller ships, more fare inclusions and higher prices than Oceania. You can sail to Hawaii year-round, but the itinerary options vary based on the month you choose. Norwegian Cruise Line is the only major cruise line to offer year-round, weeklong cruises. I probably don't need to convince anyone why Hawaii is an amazing vacation destination. With an overwhelming world of choices, we understand you may need some personal assistance to plan your perfect vacation.

Book a cruise between the islands

Unless you’re flying in a 9-seater plane with Mokulele, you’ll have to arrive at the airport with enough time to go through airport security. Throw in the travel time to and from the airport, and it will still take at least half a day to island-hop—cutting into your precious vacation time. Many visitors overdo it, so be sure to keep that balance of lost time in mind when sorting out your itinerary.

CardMatch

While our options skew more toward luxury Hawaii cruises due to the ship accommodations, remote access and included activities, we do know how to land you Hawaii cruise deals if you are looking for them. The best Hawaiian cruise is one where you experience the authentic Aloha State at a relaxed pace, not just rush by as a tourist on the least expensive route. Airlines in Hawaii love to offer flash sales and seasonal deals with interisland flights, so sign up for miles programs or keep an eye on the websites.

Zaandam will also sail 51- to 56-night Tales of the South Pacific itineraries that visit multiple islands in Hawaii and French Polynesia along with ports in the Cook Islands, American Samoa and Fiji. Travelers who have more than two weeks to spare and who prefer to arrive in Hawaii via ship rather than an airplane can do so on Holland America's 17-night Circle Hawaii itinerary. They'd better also love sea days because crossing the Pacific from San Diego or Vancouver to Honolulu and back requires 10 days. Its American-themed decor celebrates U.S. cities in a vibrant, and at times, kitschy way, but a 2021 refurbishment left its cabins and public spaces feeling refreshed.

Why A Cruise Is The Best Way To Go Hawaii Island Hopping

These relaxed, intimate and active Hawaii small ship cruises may just offer the new spin on Aloha luxury you’ve been searching for. That's because the line offers only two sailings per ship each year (in spring and fall) as the ships reposition between Alaska and destinations in the Pacific. The itineraries are one-way (Vancouver to Honolulu or vice versa) with passports required. For travelers who want more aloha time than the typical eight-hour port call allows, Norwegian Cruise Line has a solution. Its 2,186-passenger Pride of America lets vacationers sample four Hawaiian islands over seven days, with overnights in Maui and Kauai, plus port calls on both Hilo and Kona on the island of Hawaii.

Passengers come together over meals featuring locally sourced ingredients, and as all UnCruise fares include unlimited wines, spirits and microbrews, shipmates can raise a glass without worrying who's buying a round. It all lends itself to an exclusive yet utterly relaxed week of cruising. Constructed in 1998, Safari Explorer was designed with adventure itineraries in mind (in summer the U.S.-flagged ship repositions to Alaska). Its size allows it to navigate areas larger ships can't reach, which in Hawaii means bays and coves ideal for snorkeling or watersports.

Cruise Itinerary

The ship cruises to Kona on the other side of the island for another two days of snorkeling or other onshore activities. The next two days are spent in Lahaina, Maui, home base for a cruise among dolphins and whales, a plantation tour, or a traditional luau. The ship cruises to the final stop in Honolulu, where guests are free to enjoy Oahu at their leisure before heading back to the mainland. This trip aboard the 4,905-passenger Quantum of the Seas offers passengers much to do during days at sea, including a surf simulator, bumper cars, a skydiving simulator, and a 360-degree observation deck. After departing Vancouver, British Columbia, the ship spends four days at sea before it arrives in Lahaina, Maui, for a day of exploring.

The islands have much to offer families, couples and friends of all ages. Sister lines Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean are good bets for those hybrid one-way cruises from the West Coast to Hawaii. Unfortunately, helicopter tours don't allow you to bring your suitcase and simply get dropped off to start a new island life — you'll have to return with the pilot to the island you departed from. If you want to get dropped into a really remote Hawaiian area, the only way to do so is by helicopter. Blue Hawaiian is a charter company and will take hikers and travelers to less-touristed areas and far-flung trailheads.

The favorite among locals has historically been Hawaiian Airlines, as it offers the largest range of available flight times and high levels of service (plus, they’ve been around since 1929). Hawaiian Island has flights to all six major islands, with airports in Lihue, Honolulu, Hoolehua, Kapalua, Kahului, Lanai City, Kona, and Hilo. Hawaiian Airlines also has a subdivision called Ohana that includes a small fleet of smaller planes used for select interisland routes. The recent addition of Southwest to the Hawaii airline scene in 2019 brought even more interisland flights out of Oahu, Maui, Kona, Lihue, and Hilo. Our Hawaiian Island cruises reach ports and locations that are off-the-beaten path and away from the typical Hawaii cruise destinations.

Port of departure is Honolulu with visits to Nawiliwili, Kauai, Kailua-Kona and Hilo on the Big Island as well as Lahaina, Maui. The sail from Hilo to Kailua-Kona is done at night, taking you past the lava flows of Kilauea. The 9-night itinerary includes Vancouver, while the longer sailings also stop in Victoria on Vancouver Island before heading to Vancouver on the mainland. The Radiance of the Seas and the Rhapsody of the Seas are the ships involved and both have been extensively upgraded.
